the museum of fine arts, valletta

i took myself on a little date in valletta this week to visit the museum of fine arts. it's certainly not one of the best art museums in europe, but it has a good collection with emphasis on 16th-18th century works with connections to malta. the mattia preti room particularly impresses, and it was also nice to view the small collection of 20th-21st century maltese art.

but my favourite part of the museum of fine arts is always that staircase. one of my history of art lecturers said that it looks like it's made of melting wax - in a beautiful, plastic way of course. it's due to undergo some restoration work this year. i can't wait to see how it turns out.
