the middle spoon, halifax (+ seven lovely years)

We took a (much needed) break from school and work last weekend to celebrate seven years of being together. We saw Frankenstein at our favourite little Canadian theatre, Neptune. Then we headed down the street to The Middle Spoon - a desserterie generating a lot of buzz on food review web sites in Halifax.

The Middle Spoon had a much smaller menu then we thought it would - maybe 15 items. I had the chocolate torte with raspberry sauce and a claret lemonade (claret, lemon juice, raspberries, blackberries). He had the chocolate brownie/pudding pie and a mojito (with raspberries). The service was pretty disappointing - we sat for 15 minutes without anyone offering us a menu and another 10 before our order was taken. But the food was excellent. If they expand their menu in the future we will definitely go back to see what else they have to offer. Or you know, just for the claret lemonade. It was kind of that good.

This week we are back to the grind, and then celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving with our families.

On that note, it's not always travelling and adventure and excitement over here. Sometimes it's just plain old hard work. But either way, we think that we are pretty lucky to have each other, and for that we are extremely thankful. Here's to another wonderful year together.

and, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

- Jess

  1. Congratulations on the anniversary!

We pretty much had the exact same experience. Poor service, but great drinks. It's a bit disappointing when a place with a fun new idea doesn't quite execute it well...
