We love Dropbox

You know that awful feeling when you know your computer is dying? And you will soon lose all of your documents, music, photos, and video forever.

That's me right now.

My computer has given me one too many blue screens of death (you know what I'm talking about) and I have finally accepted that it is in its last death throes. And with several papers and projects on the go the frantic emailing of documents to myself begins.

Because really, who backs up thier stuff? I know I should, but I don't. I can't be bothered with USB keys and portable hard drives or whatever. Which is where Dropbox has swooped in and saved my virtual life.

Dropbox is a web based file storage service. It's super easy to use. Sign up for a free account and Dropbox sets up a Dropbox folder on your computer and/or mobile. Then you pop your files into it. Those files are now synced and available across all of your computers and mobile devices, and across Windows and Mac operating systems. You can save, open and edit files across all of these devices too. And Dropbox makes sharing documents, photos, etc. with anyone super easy through SMS, email, Twitter, Facebook, or by allowing other users to sync your files to their Dropbox accounts. You can even chose to make a file public and Dropbox assigns it a unique URL for even easier sharing. All of this makes Dropbox the easiest of any storage service I've used. Plus it's fully encrypted, and it has an un-delete function. I love un-delete functions.

Yes, I know iCloud was released this week, but I don't feel that the service is powerful enough (yet) for storing everything you need, and sharing with anyone you want.

Dropbox is the coolest, star-treky, space-agey storage system out there. It works exactly the way you want it to. And it has saved my virtual butt.

Dropbox will save your virtual butt too. You can sign up for 2GB of free storage here.

Disclaimer: if you do sign up for Dropbox, we will receive a small amount of free storage space. So thank you, and we hope you love it as much as we do!

Have a fantastic weekend, and if you're in the Halifax area you should check out Nocturne: Art at Night this weekend. It's Halifax's answer to Malta's Notte Bianca, or Toronto's Nuit Blanche. Because art just belongs in the streets.
