Mayrhofen, Austria

We traveled to Austria last week, starting out trip in Mayrhofen, a ski village set in the Austrian alps. We were in Mayrhofen to visit with Mike's family and some family friends who were enjoying the slopes. Of course we would visit the Austrian alps during the worst cold snap in decades. To say it was cold would be an understatement. Very pretty, but very cold.

We stayed at Mair Appartements, which I would highly recommend. Along with Austrian beer. Austrian food, on the other hand, I might not (schnitzel's just not my thing).

One night right outside our apartment was a ski jumping demonstration. Only one guy missed his jump and flew head first into a wall of ice, which was enough excitement to remind me that a) skiing jumping is entertaining b) given his track record for personal injuries related to sport I will highly advise Mike against ski jumping in the future and c) Austrian skiers should probably wear helmets.

ps. tomorrow - salzburg!
