After visiting the Palais des Papes, we had a low-key snack (which turned into dinner) at a cafe opposite the city's Opera Theatre. Where a couple beer, wine, and a cheese plate for two came to €20 - not bad. And, best of all, the service was fantastic (let's be honest - sometimes that can feel like a total triumph when you're travelling)
Did you know you can ask for free tap water at most restaurants in France? Simply request a carafe d'eau, s'il vous plaƮt.
Also, did you know the regional speciality at McDonalds Avignon is local goat cheese salads and wraps? Not that we went to McDonalds. Because obviously no true traveller would do that.
(OK, we did. And we're so over the travel authenticity hierarchy.)

Yum, that looks so good. And it looks beautiful there.
ReplyDeleteSometimes one just needs something quick, easy & familiar and often times that happens to be McDonalds. No judgment here - we have done it too.
ReplyDeleteI feel less bad about it since we travel so often, we don't feel like we're 'missing out' on local specialities. And we eat those too, of course.
