Holy. Cow. The little towns between Monaco and Nice are gorgeous. Especially this one, Villefranche-sur-Mer. As we were driving along, we turned a sharp corner and Mike slammed on the brakes and pulled over when he saw the view. Wow.
Conveniently, we were at a little picnic look-off spot (cursing that we didn't have any picnic food with us!) It was stunning, in a way that Monaco just never can be. Juniper trees, turquoise waters, palm trees, lush gardens, terracotta roofs, boats bobbing on the little harbour, and those neat Baroque fortifications. Need I say more?
If you're ever driving this route, definitely plan to stop for a snack (or just to stretch your legs) before Villefranche-sur-Mer on the road that runs just above the town (D60007).
And don't forget your camera.
