On a warm, sunny afternoon in September (which I think is my favourite month in France) we had a picnic on the lawn of Chateau Chambord. And we were the only two living things on that entire expansive lawn; it was our very own private Disney castle sunset show for two. Throw in the elation and relief we were feeling from figuring out that wedding thing, and it was one of those travel moments I'll never forget.
Well, that's an overstatement. There are a lot of things I forget about our trips, and our day to day lives. Luckily, photos like these bring me right back. But in case that doesn't work, and since this blog acts as a record of our lives, future me, please recall:
The scratchy feeling of the grass and our makeshift picnic blanket (towel). The warmth of the sun and the cool breeze, laced with promises of autumn. The cheap red wine we bought in Nice days before, mixed with warm Coke for impromptu kalimotxo. Those sweet sundried tomatoes and salty green olives. My favourite black dress and gold shoes. Mike's short haircut and soft pink shirt. The fat birds and little planes swooping above our heads. Counting the turrets of the castle (it's asymmetrical!) and watching fish jump in the moat. Feeling warm and loved and happy and full.
Or just ask Mike. He remembers everything.
