Mussels look like tiny brains + Bon weekend!

via
What are you doing this weekend? I'm going to hop on a ferry to Gozo, Malta's sister island, and eat mussels until I burst. I just got over the fact they look like squishy little brains started eating them and I'm convinced they taste better if you eat them in tiny villages by the sea, washed down with wine, in the middle of the afternoon.

Unrelated to mussels, the switch to The Stroke seemed to be going off without a hitch until my feed and email subscriptions broke. I rolled up my sleeves and (sort of) fixed them last night, but if you were an RSS/email subscriber you'll need to resubscribe using the tools on the sidebar (sorry).

And to send you off into the weekend...

stupidly simple and delicious
i'm about three years behind but it's fabulous
the equivalent of a 'beach read' documentary
COVET: birkenstocks
doesn't it seem like suddenly everyone and their grandpa is wearing them?
THINK ABOUT IT:
What's the one food you might try if it just looked different (i.e. not as gross)? I still can't get over geoducks.

A little housekeeping note - Rachel M. - please contact me to collect your giveaway prize! Or, as per the fine print, I have to draw another winner tonight. And that would be sad.

  1. Funny enough... I used to love mussels, but recently can't get over the braini-ness. Same with oysters... love the taste, hate the texture! Enjoy Gozo! xxx

    1. Ohh oysters are a good one! I've never tried them, I have this irrational fear they will give me food poisoning, but everyone raves about them so maybe one of these days I'll take the plunge! Have great weekend :)

    2. I gave oysters a shot (haha, literally I suppose) over new years at a fancy restaurant - definitely not for me. I got it down but I'm sure the look on my face was not particularly attractive.

I watched the Bergdorf doc and quite liked it - also thank you for recommending the Banksy doc as I thought it was fantastic. Those along with the Sarah Polley and obviously, I'm on a roll and seriously need a documentary discussion group!

    3. I'm big into docs lately (probably because I've always loved podcasts, and what's a podcast but a doc without video?) so if you find any other good ones you like, do let me know!

  2. I'm with you, oysters need to be eaten by the sea. Small village is a major bonus!
